Pre season hype

The excitement is reaching fever pitch, a monumental season is approaching, news of this occasion being heard in all forms of media, and who would've thought all this attention is being created by the A-league.

Can Rigters light up the A-League?
Football fans in Australia have had to tolerate a lot of negative attitude towards their beautiful game since the inception of the NSL let alone the A-league.

Constantly being deprived of the media attention it deserves, and an organisation treating its league as a business and not listening to its fans, the future for the world game in Australia seemed severely bleak. Although, with the unimaginable signings of near prime, starting Socceroo superstars Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton, a change of the guard is being sensed. This, of course, being a very broad and progressive statement, but one that nonetheless rings true. Long time foe the Herald Sun even mentioning the A-league in a positive manner. Daily on the TV people are seeing advertisements of the A-league, and news updates, which brings this writer to believe that the future is far from bleak. "We are football" the inivative new slogan, driving the community to revel in its new found glory.

But its not all Harry Kewell and Brett Emerton. Every club in the A-league has a squad to contend the title with. A few quality names that haven't gotten as much exposure as they deserve; John McKain, Dario Vidosic, Fred, Karol Kissel, Maceo Rigters,  Tiago Calvano, Besart Berisha, James Downey, Liam Miller. So even without the two household names gracing this league, football in Australia has a platform that they can build on. Club's memberships are up 20% from last year, proving that hype can be transferred into action, namely, buying memberships.

So football in Australia is reaching an inevitable stage in its short history, the stage of prosperity. The game can only build from here, after all the season hasn't even commenced yet!
